Moda Layer Cake quilt as a table cloth |
I made my quilt using a Layer Cake from my new line called Patchwork Garden. This fabric line will be in shops SOON!
I did add my own two cents with the applique leaves. Here is a pattern of the leaf if you are interested - LEAF and here is the layer cake pattern - MODA LAYER CAKE
Layer Cake quilt using Moda Patchwork Garden fabric line |
I would love to tell you a little bit about this new line of fabric. Click HERE for a video from Quilt Market.
I also stitched up 12 little embroidery patterns using the Patchwork Garden fabric line! There are 12 little wall hangings in all.
Stitched in Red patterns using Patchwork Garden fabric line |
Ready to stitch? I have a few kits available with all 12 patterns and all of the fabric needed to complete the 12 projects - click HERE (only 3 available). If you are interested in kits I've added LOTS of them on my website (small projects to big quilts) - HERE
Time for Q&A -
When did you start quilting? Tell us about your first quilt...
I made my first quilt, at age 13, using left over fabric scraps my Mom had. She used to sew our clothes and the left-over pieces of fabric were ours to play with.
When did you fall in LOVE with quilting/ textiles? and Why?
I grew up watching my Grandma and Mom sew. They both were quilter's as were their ancestors. I guess I grew up admiring the beautiful antique quilts at the Quilt Museum when I visited my Grandma. As long ago as I can remember I've been encouraged to pick up a needle and thread.
What fuels you to create?
I don't know what I would do with my day if I didn't create! I suppose it's a great excuse not to clean the house or do laundry!
Creating is very comforting to me. I get inspired by looking on Pinterest and looking back through doodle books I've done for years.
What is the best part of your design process?
I think the hardest part is coming up with the theme or direction I want to go. Once I figure that out it's really a fun process. It seems like one idea will lead to another. I like a celebratory glass of wine when I finish a project. Sometimes a preemptive glass helps with the process too.
I get shaky knees when......
Well is that a good shaky or a bad shaky? Bad shaky is speaking in public. I'm getting better at it but it still make me "glow" as my Mom would say (women don't sweat).
A good shaky on the other hand can be caused by a REALLY good dessert.(Creamy butterscotch can even makes by toes wiggle)
I love the color......
burnt orange!!! Yum. It's such a warm and cozy color.
When I teach classes or workshops, I love.....
learning new techniques from students haha. I like being surrounded by other creative people. I'm usually home by myself (and my cat) so it's nice to break that up with friendly faces and good conversation. I don't know how much actual "teaching" I do. Mostly I share things that I have found helpful, little tricks and stuff.
This project features a layer cake, charm pack or mini charm, but what is your all time favorite moda precut?
I guess that would be a layer cake. I'm a sucker for cake of any kind!
I would love to spend a day with.....
My Grandma Ruby and Grandpa Bert. They were a big part of my life growing up and I would love to see then again. I think they would both be pleased to see what I do for a living. I hope they would be proud of me.
Feel like winning some lovely Moda fabric? Now's your chance. Simply leave a comment and I will randomly pick 4 winners and announce them on Sept 13th.
