Size Matters - Moda Blog Hop

16" x 16" Nautical Star Pillow
Size matters.....yes and no.  It's really all a matter of perspective and need right?  I sure could use a larger studio space, but I've always been drawn to the super tiny little things, like painting these little 1"x1" square paintings below.  So it seems like it would make sense that a tiny studio would do, but no no! To paint these little pictures I need lots of paint in all sorts of colors and paper large and small, I need the mediums to make the crackle finish and I need paint brushes in a variety of sizes.  The list just goes on and on!  And then there is all of the MODA FABRIC!
tiny 1" x 1" watercolor paintings
My quilt block (the pillow above) is one of my favorite and really very easy, just snowballed corners (or flying geese) and squares.  I added a simple star applique for a nautical look.  The finished pillow is using a 16" square, but my favorite block is in the very center - it measures a tiny 2" x 2"!  If you would like directions to make this Nautical Star pillow click HERE.

For a more general pattern of the quilt block in a variety of sizes (above) click HERE.

If you are drawn to tiny things you might also like one of my little pendant necklaces.  There are three quilty designs to choose from.  They measure  1" square and come with a 24" ball chain.  The designs are prints from original watercolor paintings.  Best of all they only cost $12 plus shipping. Click HERE to check them out.

GIVE AWAYS!

The best for last right?  Moda has GENEROUSLY provided some spectacular goodies for me to give away!  I have fat quarter bundles, layer cakes, charm packs, jelly rolls.....all from my new fabric line called Piecemakers which won't be in stores until January!   Be the first to stitch something up with this new line!  The concept for this line was everything sewing/quilting related including quilt guilds.  I was doing a little research and I got caught up in the creative names of guilds and I decided to use some of them in the fabric.  The colors are a soft wheat, pale soldier tealy blue, and chestnut browns.

The winners have been notified, thank you!
Moda Piecemaker's available in January

I had a fun time designing these four quilts with this fabric.  I was lucky enough to have my Mom and my good friend Sheryl do piecing for me - THANK YOU!!!!!

Four quilt designs using Moda's Piecemaker fabric line - top left - Nimble Thimble KS-1304, top right - Cotton Patch KS-1305, bottom left - Piecemaker KS-1302 (the "applique" pieces are actually cut from the panel, no applique needed!) bottom right - Patchworks KS-1303.  The patterns will be available in November - suggested retail $8
And in case you would like some other piecing options my dear and talented friend Barb of Coach House Designs came up with these cuties!

Oh, that pillow is amazing. Thanks for sharing the basic block along with the instructions for making the pillow. Your new line looks beautiful with the blues and browns, and the items you designed using it.
I don't currently belong to a quilts guild, but when things slow down on the farm this fall and winter, I'm hoping to visit the Puyallup Valley Quilt Guild (Puyallup, WA). I met several of the ladies at our local farmer's market this summer and got info for their meetings.

Love the new Piecemakers fabric. Would love to have that. The colors are wonderful. I am a member of Southern Wake Quilt Guild in Fuquay-Varina,NC. Bet you cant pronounce it, but neither can people that live here. We do have some very talented quilters, and the guild is small, compare to others. We are cozy, and size does matter. I would rather attend a small group, and know members, than attending a large guild, and only knowing few people. With this in mind, size matters to me. Thank you

I don't have a quilt guild :( There is one in my area and I went one time but honestly they were very hateful and unwelcoming and I haven't gone back. I know that's not normal but it left a very bad taste in my mouth. At one time I started a quilt bee of my own because quite a few others had the same issue with the same guild but had to give it up for time reasons (young children). I'm thinking of starting it up again though. Hmmmm...

Sorry, I don't belong to a guild. Just me and my sisters getting together once a week to sew together.

I am a member of a very small group of quilters we meet in a church so our name is Church Mice. There are about 25 of us who most often get to our meetings. They would be over the moon to win something from you. As would I. Thank you for this opportunity!

My guild is 'Main Street Quilt & Thread Guild' in Round Rock, TX. Love your pillow ~ reminds me of the 'rising star' block that keeps on rising! Fabric line is really like comfort food! Would love to have some! Thanks.

I don't belong to a guild, although I have recently been researching those in my area. There aren't any in my city. Hope that doesn't disqualify me. I love the sewing machine quilt. I'm always drawn to images of sewing and quilting.

We don't have a "guild" per se, just a group of us that meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. We are called Sip 'n Sew and everyone just brings whatever they want to work on.

Thank you for the free pillow pattern. I love it and I'm wanting to work on my precision piecing skills, so this will be a good project for me! Love your upcoming designs too!

I love stars and pinwheels so you block and quilts really called my name. Such a fun line of fabric. I'm afraid our guild doesn't have a very inventive name - Vernal Quilt Guild, Vernal, UT.

My guild is online, and it's called Quilt Chicks. We've been together since the mid-90s! We have actual retreats and GTs, swaps, charity projects, and everything except dues and business meetings. =)
