Moda Blog Hop - Hometown Visits

WELCOME!  Thanks so much for "visiting" me in Portland, Oregon.
Portland (population just under 600,000) is known as the City of Roses.  The unofficial motto is "KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD".   I have to admit it can be a little weird around here, but it keeps things interesting.
One of the things I love about this area are the eateries!    I'm not a huge lover of chicken wings, but the chicken wings at Pok Pok are to die for!  They must make their chickens do bench presses because they are loaded with meat and the flavor is amazing!

One of my favorite places to satisfy my sweet tooth is the Waffle Window. They remind me of the waffles I had in Belgium!!!!  But at 400 calories a piece I don't visit that window too often.  mmmm..........
The Waffle Window SE Portland
Every year Portland celebrates with it's famous Rose Festival.  The highlight of which is the Grand Floral Parade.  The floats are covered with thousands of roses.  This year marked the parade's 100th year!  We used to take the kids down to watch the parade when they were lithe - very sweet memories.

Portland has great weather for growing beautiful roses.  We have a gorgeous International Rose Test Garden filled with 7,000 rose plants and over 500 different varieties. I can still smell them!  ahhh....

If you visit on a weekend you must go to the Saturday Market (Saturday & Sundays March - December). This weekly gathering, along the Willamette River, of artisans, musicians, food carts and more started in 1974 and is currently the largest continually operating outdoor arts and crafts market in the states.

There are also many large antique malls in town (my favorite is Stars & Splendid Antique Malls in Sellwood), gorgeous quilt shops, the waterfront shops and restaurants, great live theatre and comedy clubs.

QUILT BLOCK!

This is the quilt block Moda designed for me.  It is made using Candy precuts from my Bit's and Pieces line. To print out a free pattern for this block click here
Free pattern with limited kits available!
I thought I would play around with this block and add another block, some appliqué (I should say have my mom add some appliqué) and a border to make a table runner.  I really like how it turned out!  The pattern is free, just click here.

Sorry, all of the kits have been sold. Thank you!

THE BEST FOR LAST!
Congratulations to The Muggle Puggle, Karen, Heather A and Charlotte.  I have contacted the winners to let them know.  Thanks to EVERYONE that left a comment!  They were fun to read through!
give away!
Now hop on over to the other gals sharing their hometown tidbits today -
