BEFORE & AFTER SEWING BOX

steps to make the pincushion
Yesterday I felt a need to switch gears.  I dug through some old treasures I had stashed in the basement and found this old pipe box I had forgotten about.  It whispered in my ear that it's true purpose in life was to be my sewing box.  Luckily any pipe smell had long since drifted away and it was ready to go.  I gave her a sponge bath of Scott's Liquid Gold and she cleaned up well.  I knew the inset of the lid would become a perfect place for a pincushion.  I found a leftover piece of cedar fencing in the garage and cut it a tad smaller than the inset.  Then I dug around my studio until I found this piece of antique Belgium linen  - perfecto! A burnt finger later (hot glue guns are dangerous), I was ready to put it all together.  A piece of black wool to line the bottom and my newish sewing box is ready to roll.

My sister's and I have decided to challenge each other to create a repurposed "treasure".  My sewing box was practice : )  Tomorrow will be the real deal challenge, no holding back!  With their permission (we'll see how tomorrow goes) I'll post our before and afters and I'll let you vote.  If you're taking the time to vote I may as well make it a give-away too!  Check back tomorrow to vote and see what you can win!

I love what you did with the box, what a wonderful idea. My father and grandfather smoked pipes, wish I had their boxes.

What a great use for an old pipe box, I've never seen a pipe box before. I've either led a shelted life or we never had them here in Australia.
Can't wait to see what your sisters & you come up with. I'm 100% sure they will all be amazing !

OMGosh what a wonderful idea!!! Well done!!!!!!!!!! I wished I had my father's pipe boxes now - they were made from woods that had all sorts of grains.
